A Premarital Counseling Program
We are pleased to be offering this newly developed relationship workshop & curriculum that meets the requirements for the Twogether in Texas premarital counseling program. But more importantly, the curriculum includes an introduction to couples’ communication and counseling that can do more than help couples survive the test of time but grow as teammates in life! (because many of our parents stayed married for life but fell far short of their own #RelationshipGoals)
The 10 hour cirriclum can be completed in 3 ways:

Couples will set up a weekly time to meet with Dr. Knowles via a telehealth session (approximately 60 minutes each with some homework assignments).
These sessions may be covered by your health insurance provider if we are in your network. Please contact us or send an email to info@thebarefoottherapists.com for more details.
Private pay is available at $135 per session.

In this group setting, two or more couples will meet with one practitioner in order to reduce session costs and provide different perspective for a more open discussion. Sessions are capped at 3 couples per group.
We keep a running list of those interested in Group Couples Therapy, so we can contact folks as groups pop-up. Alternatively, couples can create their own group of wedding planning buddies. ($650/each couple for 2 couples, $450/each couple for 3 couples).
These sessions are excluded from health insurance coverage and must be settled through private pay.

This year the Isla de Encanto retreat will be held on Valentine’s Day weekend 2026 (February 13-14th).
Travel and accommodations are up to the couples entirely (although Amber and Dr. Knowles are happy to advise and give their favorites). Workshop meetings will be hosted for 4 hours on Friday and Saturday in San Juan, PR. A pre-trip meeting will be arranged with each couple individually to assign readings and meet with Dr. Knowles via telehealth before the trip.
The workshop is capped at 6 couples at the cost of $500 per couple.
We love this option because even great couples 'tiff' in airport security (and IKEA, LOL). The addition of travel stress and individual sight seeing and romance expectations adds to the subject matter in real time. This options is also open to already married or not engaged folks. The core of the retreat focuses on a work show about having the best damn relationship possible. And we love the idea of offering it in the most welcoming place we know, Puerto Rico.
